Punyu International hotel was established by the late Mr Jairus Shikale in 1986, Punyu International Hotel was the first in and around Ondangwa, Mr Shikale had associates in Windhoek and South Africa who needed accommodation in the Northen part of Namibia,the only nearest hotel was in Oshakati which is 35 km away, this was a challenge as the associates had to commute on a daily basis from Oshakati to Ondangwa, Mr shikale saw a business opportunity he then established his own Hotel to accommodate his associate and avoid them communiting from oshakati. .

Punyu hotel became the home to Business Owners/Politician and Tourist and was mostly fully booked.
